The Decided Font
The font that we have decided for our opening sequence is the 'Epic Slash' font from DaFont. the reason being for this is because it has the feel of a rushed murderer feel. this is achieved by the straight edged font sides but at the end it is sloppy and cuts off giving the motion of a knife or slashing motion. Additionally it has a retro feel to it which contrasts with our modern day approach to the film however this can communicate to the audience that it still has the same typical horror aspects. The un-even font width and style gives the impression of blood however, it is simple so that not too much is taken away from the scene its self and is still easy to read.
This is also a similar style to Friday the 13th title as it has the same effect of a bloody, careless view of a killer.

Font Ideas
Our film genre is a horror and the opening sequence is key to intrigue audiences and make them want to continue to watch the film. Included in the opening is the title and production company. So the often link to the movie in some way which is why i have chosen the following fonts from DaFont.com
This particular font links to our film as it is in a hand written styled font in what appears to be paint or graffiti which links to our target audience of rebellious teenagers/ young adults.
\This font looks sketchy and edgy which gives it a creepy feel and once again links to horror as it looks rushed and blood like due to the drips and the sharpness of it can link to the murder weapon of a knife.
Finally, this font is slightly different from the others as it is bolder and slightly less edited with few markings on it which shows dereliction and an abandoned atmosphere which is a plot in our film.
Additionally, these fonts all have different ways of creating a similar creepy, killer feel but in their own way. However looking towards more of a supernatural sub-genre I would say the first one as it is something that could suddenly appear on a wall in a deep red to remark blood or just a rushed note which entices the audience as they know now that the film is possibly fast paced and scary.

Pitch
25 word picth
This video very briefly explains our plot of our opening, but in more detail, the group of teenagers are typically exploring/ up to no good and enter an abandoned complex. in the opening we see them having fun and messing around until towards the end of the opening where one of them goes missing through a paranormal experience. This will be done very suddenly to shock the audience which is a common occurrence in a horror and yet it still catches people off guard!
Data from survey
The survey we made was completed by a total of ... People some friends and family, and others who simply stumbled across it. This provided us with key information we needed to gather in order to gain a further understanding of what people like in horror films and therefore we could either use the data so that we appeal to a wide range of people or appeal to a more niche audience.
100% of people are comfortable with seeing someone getting killed. This is promising as when filming a horror having someone being killed can really help to build tension. So therefore when making the story board for our opening we will definitely have someone killed off at the start.
However when it came to gore 70% of people said "Yes they are comfortable with gore", whereas 30% said no or maybe. This could influence how we choose to film scene which may feature gore, however, providing that our survey has been taken by a wide range of people and the overall vote is higher inclines that maybe a little is good after all a horror is meant to put you out of your comfort zone!
When asked about the gender of the main characters the majority said male, but about 44% said female or both and so a male main character is preferred but by having a group in which our opening is based around it allows the audience to pick their favourite rather than being forced to watch it with the main character being a female.
When asked about whether they were comfortable with jump scares there was mixed results with a lot of people saying Yes but also a lot saying No or Maybe. So to work with these results we might allow for jump scares at typical points in the opening rather than literally out of no where.
The choice between slasher and supernatural had a very strong win with supernatural at 80%. This will most likely influence our decisions as we will no definitely include supernatural aspects to our film opening
When asked about props, knives and children's toys came up a lot inclining that everyday objects are liked rather than a rather obvious and unrealistic weapon of say a incinerator-ray gun. So the classic use of a kitchen knife you can't really go wrong, and yet the creepiness of a children's toy being a prop instantly sends chills down peoples spines.
The setting questions had extremely mixed results with all of them being voted for almost the same amount, giving us no real conclusion. This tells us that there is a real mix and people can see many environments to be scary and a good location.
PEOPLE WANT FIRST PERSON HORROR FILMS. I think we will be implementing this feature into the opening sequence, as i think it really adds a lot to the film and builds more tension than if it were in the third person view. The use of the FP view from villains perspective makes the viewer uncomfortable and scared themselves which enhances the killers power if they appear not to be scared.
The preferred killer had an easy win with insane being the most common choice allowing for us to use inventive and abnormal ways of presenting him or even hiding him through the use of camerawork and mise-en-scene.

Our film production Logo
Our Film is obviously a horror and with horror films usually comes horror specialized production companies, for example you don't see Pixar at the start of the human centipede and vice versa, you dont expect to see dark castles logo or ghost house productions to appear at the start of a comedy. This is shown by the logo its self, the colors used, the actual image/ model and the name or title of it such as the one shown to the side. Our logo therefore will be something frightening or in relation to a horror film and what better scene is a full moon at midnight with the howling of a wolf? Its a stereotypical horror setting and by having the sound effects with a blue flame coming off to give it a unique appearance will give it that extra dangerous touch!

Target audience
For our horror film we have chose to appeal our film opening to the 2 quadrants under 25 so both female and male. This is because via our research, newer horror films are being more commonly watched by the younger audiences.
From my research I have come to a conclusion that my 'Alternative Teens' who are into rock music, and slightly niche hobbies so to speak are a huge portion of the audience who watch horror films. One example of groups that would fit into this are the 'Hard-core' who are intrigued and interested in horror and dark tales. This is why I will target under 25 male and females as well as they can relate to the situations so to speak and the main characters.
